Team Fiji athletics officials are awaiting the result of their appeal to the Pacific Mini Games jury.

This was after sprinter Aaron Powell was disqualified after winning the 100 metres final at the Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu yesterday.

Powell clocked 10.77secs ahead of Samoa’s Kelvin Masoe but officials withheld the final results due to a false start.

Team Fiji athletics coach Jone Delai feels they have been robbed.

“To me the race was fine, it was just a good start. I do not know what the officials saw. It was a fault on their part because they did not have any recall starter,” Delai said.

He said if the race was recalled then Powell would have been disqualified.

“But there was no call back and the video they showed us was recorded from the back of the athletes and it was inconclusive.”

Van2017 technical delegate Yvonne Mullins said Powell was found to have made a false start under the International Athletics rule 162.7.
