Having a balanced team of runners was a key component for Team Fiji athletics winning the 4×100 metres relay finals, says Joseph Rodan Junior.

Team Fiji’s athletics assistant coach made the comment after the men and women teams won gold at the Pacific Mini Games yesterday.

“If you look closely we do not have any gold medal winners in both our relay teams.”he said in Port Vila.

“But we had a balanced team and they were all fast, their average speed as a team outpaced the others.

“You can have the fastest runners but if you cannot get the baton around effectively then that is the game. We practiced until we got it perfect then at the end of the day, the team that was in it to win, won the race.”

The women’s team consisted of Miriama Senokonoko, Serenia Ragatu, Elenoa Sailosi and Makereta Naulu clocked 47.43secs.

The men’s team comprised Sireli Bulivorovoro, Kolinio Radrudru, Tony Lemeki, and Aaron Powell clocked 42.30s.

“These are young talents and we expect to see them around for the next eight to 10 years,” Rodan said.

“They have their whole future ahead of them.”

Team Fiji bagged three gold medals on the track yesterday, the 4×100 men, women relay teams and the 400m final through Senokonoko
