Team Fiji’s gold medal prospects boxing Olympian Winston Hill and athletics sprinter Aaron Powell lost out yesterday.

Powell came fifth in the 200metres final clocking 22.15secs while Hill lost out in the  semifinal to Sione Modeni in the 69kg weight division.

“Overall I know I did not do enough. His speed caught me off guard but that’s  boxing. Some styles are superior and Modeni came out as the better fighter and  boxer,” Hill said.

He said he would be taking up his much needed rest, after a strenuous eight weeks camp they had building up to the Games.

Team Fiji currently sits at third place with 21 gold, 20 silver and 18 bronze medals behind second place Papua New Guinea 27 gold, 24 silver and 18 bronze.

New Caledonia currently leads the medal tally with 42 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze medals.’
