Villagers of Tubenasolo, the last village in the Tikina of Nawaka in Nadi defied odds just to hear Parliament information.

According to village headman Iliesa Naqiri, the villagers travelled on horseback from Tubenasolo village to Malevani settlement as they are faced with bad road conditions.

“We knew that it will be hard for the Parliament team to visit our village and we decided to meet them at Malevani settlement so that we do not miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity,” Mr Naqiri said.

“We are so grateful that the Speaker decided to take Parliament to all the villages in Fiji as this is something that has never happened before.

“One of the avenues shared with us was to take advantage of the Committees. This is an avenue where we will be able to meet Members of Parliament,” Mr Naqiri said.

The presentation by the Parliament staff members were on the roles and functions of Parliament and how the villagers can engage with Parliament.

Prior to visiting Tubenasolo village, the Parliament team was at Nausori village before visiting Yavuna village.

The team also visited Tabalei and Bukuya villages on Wednesday.
