Former Superintendent  Of Police Convicted By Magistrate

A former Superintendent of Police was convicted by the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.

Pita Keni was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one count of ‘Failure to Render Assistance’ and with one count of ‘Resisting or Obstructing Officers’.

Nadi Magistrate Mohammed Azhar, found Keni guilty on one count of ‘Failure to Render’ and convicted him accordingly. Keni was found not guilty for the second count.

Keni, while being a public servant employed by the Fiji Police Force without reasonable excuse failed to render assistance to FICAC by refusing to provide information requested that was relevant to a bribery case against a former Acting Inspector of the Fiji Police Force Timoci Naulu.

FICAC counsel Rashmi Aslam appeared for the prosecution.

Keni was represented by Defense Counsel AmanRavindra Singh.
