Council Plans To Extend Tikaram Park Boundary

Tikaram Park will undergo land reclamation as Lami Town Council (LTC) plans to extend the park’s boundary by 10 to 12 metres.
This was confirmed by the Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala during the council’s 40th Anniversary celebration.
Mr Bala said Government was committed to funding the reclamation programme and would also look into the redevelopment of the Lami Market and a plaza.
Council special administrator Jasper Singh said that he expected the town to have further developments in the future and Tikaram Park was first on the list.
“Forty years ago, the park was just barren land and with Governments help we have what we see today,” Mr Singh said.
“There are plans for further development and the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) has been conducted. We will extend Tikaram Park by 10 to 12 metres because this will enable us to hold festivals and other activities,” Mr Singh said.
“In the past, festivals were not held because of space being a problem. With the reclamation we will be able to host big events.
“Lami has progressed well and acknowledges the support from Government.
“With no increase in town rates for the coming years Government allows us to progress through its funding and support.”
Mr Singh added that every park in Lami would have some kind of multipurpose courts and with help from the Fiji Roads Authority they have identified roads that need upgrades.
“A future and long term plan includes building a plaza and this has been approved by the ministry, but we have to give a plan to the ministry.”
Mr Kumar said the development of the Lami Market and plaza would be approved once a master plan had been drawn up.
