Two writers from the Western Division vow to continue writing to the Fiji Sun’s Letters to the Editor column in their bid to voice concerns on issues of national interest.

Lautoka school teacher Dhirendra Prasad said writing for him is a passion.

He was our Letter of the Week winner during the month of August, winning a Philips Dry Iron on Friday at the Courts Store in Nadi Town.

The 48-year-old said this was an early Christmas present for him, adding that he was grateful to the Fiji Sun for publishing his letters.

The winning letter was titled Ads For No Longer Employed.

“I usually write about various issues such as social problems, human values, and family values,” he said.

“I realised that people are unaware that their opinions can be heard through the media and even social media.

“I will continue to write because words have an impact on people and we can contribute to making a difference,” Mr Prasad added.

Second winner, Pramesh Naidu, an 18-year-student of Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College in Nadi, said  he did not expect to win a prize from writing.

He shared that he has written a number of letters but this was the first time he has been recognised for it.

The teenager won a Philips Dry Iron from Courts as he was also a Letter of the Week winner during the month of August.

“I write a lot mainly on issues concerning youths today and how we can contribute to the development of our nation.

The aspiring civil engineer said he will continue to write and advocate on issues that concern youths.

His winning letter was titled Resting Areas.
