Stephens Praises Athletes, Officials

Team Fiji deputy chef de mission Pauline Stephens said the athletes and officials have been good ambassadors of the nation.

“We’re so proud of our athletes that have done their best and this we can see it in their attitude,” she said.

“They were here for a purpose and it has been a good outing.”

Team Fiji along with more than 2000 athletes from across the region paraded at the Korman Sporting Complex on Friday night for the closing of the 2017 Pacific Mini Games.

Stephens said they were so thankful of the hard work and talents of the athletes who gave it their all for the country.

Locals in Port Vila, referred to the Fijian athletes as their Melanesian brothers, which was reciprocated by the bula smiles of Team Fiji athletes who easily got along with them

“You only have to look at the interaction between our athletes and the local Vanuatu people. I think we were one of the most friendliest towards them and they in turn appreciate our hospitality and friendship.”

She said they were well-looked after by the people of Vanuatu in terms of logistics, transportation and accommodation.

The Team Fiji contingent departed Bauerfield International Airport in Port Villa last night. –
