Anaseini Lewavai was emotional as she described how a two-bedroom house built by her late father was destroyed in a fire on Friday night.

The home at Wainigasau Settlement, Veisari, was reduced to charred frames.

Ms Lewavai said her father, who was a carpenter, built the house and memories of her late parents began to overwhelm her.

“The house has sheltered four generations and has got sweet and unforgettable memories of my late beloved parents,” she said.

“We can rebuild the house but the memories will not be the same.

“The house was always open to people. Families can shelter at home for a year or more and then they move on with their life.

“I am thankful that no one in the family lost their life.”

Ms Lewavai reckons the fire started from a spark in the wiring.

“My sister told me about the spark so we called the electrician and he gave a list of what was needed,” she said.

“I regret that I didn’t buy immediately what the electrician listed down.”

She urges everyone to always take seriously any spark from any electrical wires seriously.

The National Fire Authority attended to the fire at around 11pm on Friday. Investigations continue.
