Qiliho Calls On Public To Drink Responsibly

Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho has reminded members of the public to be responsible when under the influence of alcohol.

This was after two Police officers were allegedly assaulted while trying to disperse a group of youths drinking at a school ground on Saturday night.

The incident occurred at 10pm at the Naidovi School grounds in Sigatoka.

The two Police officers were on patrol when they were allegedly assaulted.

The officers sustained minor injuries and received treatment while the suspect was in custody at the Sigatoka Police Station.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said the Fiji Police Force would not condone such behavior.

“We are there for the people.

“The worst thing they can do is turn around and do this. This behaviour is unacceptable,” he said.

“We are doing our investigation and then the court will decide.”

The Commissioner of Police said members of the public should drink alcohol responsibly.

“Christmas is the time to celebrate and enjoy.

“Those who go out and enjoy should drink responsibly,” Brigadier General Qiliho said.

“There should not be any unnecessary trouble. This is the type of action we do not condone.”

Assistant Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said: “We are working tirelessly to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable festive season and all we ask in return is your co-operation and that you respect our officers who are merely doing their work.”
