18-year-old Charged With Raping Woman

An 18-year-old unemployed youth of Lami appeared at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday charged with the alleged rape of a 24-year-old woman.
Josua Bueta appeared before Magistrate Joji Boseiwaqa and was further remanded by the court.
The alleged offence happened on December 14, 2017, when the complainant accompanied the accused with two other alleged accomplices to a drinking party.
It was alleged the three men allegedly raped her.
Police prosecutor Corporal Sanil Kumar made an application for the case to be transferred to the High Court because the charge was an indictable offence.
Corporal Kumar filed and served full phase disclosures to the teenager in court.
Magistrate Boseiwaqa told the accused that his bail would be decided by the High Court and if he wanted, than he should seek legal representation by the next adjournment date.
The case was adjourned to January 12, 2018, for the first call in the High Court
