Corrections Officer Fined For Drink/Drive

A Fiji Corrections Service officer was ordered to pay a fine of $150 after he pleaded guilty to drunk driving.
Alivereti Qura appeared before Suva Magistrate Deepika Prakash and admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol on November 12 this year at about 3:35am along Stinson Parade.
On that particular day Qura, who was a provisional licence holder, drove a motor vehicle while there was 17.6milligrams of alcohol present in 100millilitres of his blood.
He was charged with one count of breach of zero alcohol limit.
In mitigation, Qura told Magistrate Prakash that he was 26-years-old and earned a fortnightly income of $512.
He was married and had three children.
Magistrate Prakash ordered the accused to pay a fine of $150 within 30 days or face 10 days imprisonment in default.
He was ordered to surrender his licence to the court and was disqualified from driving for the next three months.
The case was adjourned to January 18 for review of payment.
