Landlord Worries Over Bad Debtors

“They (tenants) are not responding to the notices and had been given more time,” said landlord, the Peoples Community Network national director Semiti Qalowasa.

Tenants with bad debt at the Lagilagi Settlement at Veiquwawa, Suva have been warned to pay up or be evicted.

The landlord, the Peoples Community Network (PCN) national director Semiti Qalowasa said some residents had stopped paying their rents for months and had been given notices.

“They are not responding to the notices and had been given more time,” he said.

He said PCN had built houses at Lagilagi to house squatters who were members of its saving scheme.

He said from next year the landlord would be very strict on rent payments.

He said Stage Two of their housing project at Lagilagi was about to be completed and would house 76 families.

Five blocks had been allocated to the victims of a fire in October at the Fiji Muslim League squatter settlement in Nabua.

Mr Qalowasa said some families had moved in and the rest would be housed early next year.

He said another programme they were introducing for the tenants was farming.

Mr Qalowasa said they had land at Vanuakula in Naitasiri and farmers always brought produce to the Suva market every Friday for the big market day on Saturday.

He said some of these farmers already had orders from market vendors which was beneficial for the farmers.
