‘This is our way of showing our support to our government in its stand at the COP23 meeting in Bonn, Germany.’

The Lami Town Council has decided to introduce energy saving and green town initiatives.

This was confirmed by Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment and Housing Parveen Bala at the weekend when he declared Tikaram Park a solar-powered park.

“Tikaram Park will become an Energy Efficient Park and the council is progressing to have solar lights installed in the Central Business District too,” Mr Bala said.

“In addition the council has on board a private-public partnership basis arranged for solar installation.”

Automatic Renewable Energy Solution director Tomasi Navulalevu said the installation of the solar lights was a donation of $80,000 worth of solar lights from the company.

Mr Navulalevu said this was the first company that gave a donation of 20 solar lights and it would further work with municipality councils around Fiji to help reduce carbon emission.

“This is the company’s way of showing support to our government in its stand at the COP23 meeting in Bonn, Germany,” he said.

Mr Bala said parking meters for the town would also be installed in the next four weeks and he congratulated the council for promoting Green and Clean Energy initiatives.
