Rotuma Hospital Builders Return For Christmas Break

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Engineers will now minimise activity at the Rotuma Hospital in Ahau during the festive season.

This was confirmed by the operations officer Major Sanaila Vatukalulu yesterday.

He said the Commander RFMF, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto  went to Rotuma on Saturday on board the Patterson Brothers Shipping Limited owned vessel the `Spirit of Love’ to inspect the hospital.

He said Rear Admiral Naupoto would return with some engineers on the ‘Spirit of Love’.

“There are 50 engineers in Rotuma and only some will remain on the island to look after the RFMF equipment,” Major Vatukalulu said.

Project troop leader Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Penaia Balawa said 20 engineers would remain in Rotuma.

He said they were also helping in the construction of a bakery at Hapmak village, a piggery at Lapta and laying blocks at a building at Lau Village.

WO1 Balawa said the hospital on the island would be completed in October 2018.

For the festive season he said about 200 engineers would be working around the country and they were on stand-by for the cyclone season.
