He plans to educate relatives on importance of trees and environment.

He said the course was never easy, but the endless support from his parents pushed him to achieve his goal.

The deforestation at Kanakana Village in Cakaudrove, Vanua Levu, pushed Sirilo Vosarogoci to pursue a degree in Environmental Science at the Fiji National University.

Mr Vosarogoci achieved that during the Fiji National University’s Labasa Campus graduation yesterday.

“There was no one in the village to educate my relatives and friends on the importance of the forest and the environment around us, thus the reason I wanted to pursue my studies in the village,” Mr Vosarogoci said.

“I studied at St Patrick Primary school and my parents sent me to Marist Brothers High School because there was a lot of peer pressure and they needed me to pursue my studies.

“My parents were very emotional this morning when they watched me get dressed and ready for the graduation.

“I was surprised this morning that I would be the first name on the list to receive the certificate. This is a proud moment for me and family.”

He credited his parents for his achievements.

“My father is a farmer and because of his hard work and being a great figure, I have achieved my degree today. I also thank my mother, for her endless support.”

Mr Vosarogoci said the course was never easy, but the endless support from his parents pushed him to achieve his goal.

He also plans to educate his relatives and friends from the village on the importance of trees and protection of our environment.
