Saiasi Sigawale scooped the Best Drill award during the National Fire Authority 2017 Firefighter Recruits passing out parade at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Navy Togalevu Base yesterday.

He was amongst 35 graduates who graduated on probation.

The 25-year-old of Navata, Conua, Nadroga said his father, who passed away in 2010, was his inspiration to join the NFA.

“He wanted me to become a proud and respectable person in life who could help and save lives of the people of this country,” Mr Sigawale said.

“After my father passed away and I became a father, I looked at my son and thought to myself that I want to make my son proud.

“I wanted to become someone that my son would grow up and say he is my father who was a saviour of many.

“I was proud of my father, who as a soldier served in missions overseas. I always got inspired by his mode of work and that is how I want my son to look up to me so that he could be inspired by me someday and do greater things in his life.

“It was not only about having a good profession or a good job but helping others and saving their properties too.”
