A HEAVY RAIN ALERT IS NOW IN FORCE FOR THE FIJI GROUP.

A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE LAND AREAS OF FIJI.

 

Situation: A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain lies to the north of Fiji and is gradually drifting south towards Fiji.

Tropical Disturbance TD04F was analysed to the far northwest of Fiji, near Vanuatu along the trough this afternoon and is currently slow moving. TD04F is anticipated to possibly intensify into a Tropical Depression and move towards Fiji and the associated cloud, rain and strong winds to affect the country from tomorrow night.

 

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:

Today: Occasional rain with isolated heavy falls and few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, the eastern parts and the interior of the larger islands. Elsewhere, cloudy periods with isolated afternoon

or evening showers and possible thunderstorms.

 

Tomorrow: Occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms over most places.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding.

Moderate to fresh east to southeast winds. Winds turning northerly, becoming fresh to strong with average speed of 45 km/hr and gusting to 65 km/hr from later tomorrow.

Rough seas.

 

Outlook for Saturday   : Periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms. Strong winds with average speed of 50 km/hr and gusting to 65 km/hr. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding

 

For Navua / Suva / Nausori :

Today: Occasional rain with isolated heavy falls and few thunderstorms. Rain becoming frequent and heavy from tomorrow.

Outlook for Saturday   : Periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms

 

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba :

Today: Cloudy periods with isolated afternoon or evening showers and

possible thunderstorms.

Tomorrow: Occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms.

Outlook for Saturday   : Periods of rain, heavy at times and squally

thunderstorms.

 

For Labasa :

Today: Occasional rain with isolated heavy falls and few

thunderstorms. Rain becoming frequent and heavy from tomorrow.

Outlook for Saturday   : Periods of rain, heavy at times and squally

thunderstorms.

 

For Savusavu : Occasional showers with isolated heavy falls and few

thunderstorms. Rain becoming frequent and heavy from tomorrow.

Outlook for Saturday   : Periods of rain, heavy at times and squally

thunderstorms.

 

For Rotuma : Situation: A trough of low pressure with associated

cloud and rain remains slow moving over Rotuma.

Periods of rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms.

Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, gusty at times.

Moderate to rough seas.

 

Outlook for Saturday   : Periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms.
