Ministry Pairs With Foundation To Reach Out To Koro Is

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with the support of the Reach for Your Future Foundation (R4YFF), has organised an official visit to Koro Island.
Health Minister Rosy Akbar will officiate at the official groundbreaking ceremony for the Nasau Health Centre extension, which has been supported through the Australian government.
She and the Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou will also be joining the people of Koro Island for the Christmas carols at the Kade Village this afternoon.
The carol event is being hosted by Reach for Your Future Foundation to celebrate with the island community to reassure and uplift the spirit of the community.
Much of the community has endured challenging times after the destruction left behind by Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016.
This event is expected bring together the entire island community to rejoice and meet Government ministerial delegates, dignitaries and the homecoming of Reach 4 Your Future Foundation’s programme ambassador, Australian Rugby Union’s rising star Samu Kerevi.
The highlight of the event will also be gifting some 800 children on the island with special back-to-school backpacks.
In an event yesterday held at Health Ministry’s headquarters, Ms Akbar formally welcomed and acknowledged Mr Kerevi and Ganesh Sen, the president for Reach for your Future Foundation for their support and partnership.
Mr Kerevi was accompanied by his parents Nimilote Kerevi and Senimili Kerevi. In a brief introduction, Mr Kerevi acknowledged his family for their support that has enabled him to prosper in his career and personal life.
Mr Kerevi, who is the ambassador for Healthy Learner Healthy Fiji Programme, said he was thankful to be given the opportunity to visit Koro and advocate for healthy living.
He alluded that being healthy should be a habit and he looked forward to visiting Koro to be able to reach out to 800 children and advocate to them on the importance of healthy living.
Ms Akbar thanked Mr Kerevi for his commitment to travel so far in order to join their team for the events in Koro.
She also acknowledged Mr Sen and the Reach for Your Future Foundation for its continued support to the Ministry in championing awareness programmes on health and wellness in communities.
