Mother of three, Vasiti Tadulala Ratu, yesterday stood proud among her colleagues, friends and family to receive the Commissioner’s Book award from the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

She was among the 137 Police officers at the Fiji Police Basic Recruits Course passing out parade at the Nasova Police Academy in Nasese.

For Ms Ratu, 25, the award means that she achieved the highest aggregate mark for her lot.

She is married to a Police officer who is based in Namaka, Nadi.

The mother of three, said it was a challenging and tough journey because she had to juggle the duties of being a mother, wife and trainee.

“It has been tough for my family. I was always a mum. But with my husband’s support we got through it,” she said.

Ms Ratu says she never thought she’d pursue a career, the same to that of her husband, but since he was the only bread winner she decided to have a go at it.

Her later mother, she said, supported her as well in the journey.

“I never planned this, I did not see myself as a Police officer. I actually wanted to pursue a career in Bachelor of Engineering but God had other plans for me.

“I advise other women and young mother. I encourage you to take the challenge. Women can also be part of the Police force.

“It is tough but all has gone well for me and we can all get through it.”
