A resident of a small community in Labasa has been shaken since the discovery of a decomposed body hanging from a tree, in his property, on Monday evening.

Avinesh Chand reckons the body has been there for a few days.

“Her body was discovered by an aunty of mine on Monday in the afternoon around six,” Mr Chand said.

“It is funny because in this area, there has not been any case of a missing person.

“Her body was all black and was decaying. Water from her body was dripping on my tree which is why we think the body was on the trees for days which had also caused an unbearable smell.

“It could not have been there last week because my wife went to get curry leaf and she did not see any body.

“It could have been hanging there from last week Wednesday.

“We wanted to cut down the trees as it has been causing nightmares to children around here who saw the body.

“The unbearable smell had caused the residents to use handkerchiefs to cover their noses.”

Meanwhile, Police are seeking information on the identification of the woman.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “I cannot divulge any other information regarding the case, however, we cannot identify the body of the woman.

“At the moment we cannot ascertain the cause of death as wether it was suicide or murder.

“We cannot provide any further details regarding the case.”
