P  Meghji Limited and Gecko Trucking have vowed to continue supporting the development of junior programme at the Lautoka Golf Club.

The two companies have been sponsoring the season ending PRO-AM tournament for the past five years.

Wella Pillay, managing director of Gecko Trucking, said they were thrilled to be associated with the development of junior golf in Lautoka.

Being a golf enthusiast himself, Pillay has seen the fruits of his support for golf come to fruition.

Last week his 13-year old son Shakeel Pillay scooped the amateur prize at the J Kevi President’s Cup at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, scoring 44 points.

“Yes we are happy with that and that we have been behind the season ending PRO-AM for the past five years and hopefully carrying on.”

Romit Meghji, managing director of P Meghji Ltd’s son, Jai, 13, is also an enthusiastic junior golfer.

Meghji said this was why he was behind the development of junior golf in Lautoka as he wanted more youngsters to learn the sport.

“Well you see our sons are doing well in golf. My son has a good handicap and that has all come about through junior golf development.”

“So yes we will continue to support junior golf development in Lautoka and of course the season ending PRO-AM.”

Meanwhile Lautoka Golf Club chairman of trustees Raymond Singh said there were many prizes for the season ending tournament.

“We have prizes overall division and the A, B, C, junior, professional and ladies categories,”Singh said.

“This is all through the generosity of the sponsors and besides these prizes we will have a host of novelty prizes.

“The course is in tip top condition after the recent rains and our men have been working hard at providing the best fairways and greens to play.”

“We are anticipating a big field and tee-off will be between 11am to 12.30pm.
