The youngest graduate in the Fiji Police Basic Recruits Course received the highest award for his lot at the passing out parade yesterday.

Kelepi Gucake, 19, of Tubou, Lakeba in Lau dedicated his Baton of Honour achievement to God and his family.

He was among 137 Police officers to complete the course. Of this, there were five from Nauru and five from Tuvalu Police Forces.

Mr Gucake thanked his father, a former Police officer himself, for shaping his career choice.

“It was through my upbringing and continued advice from my father which has made me the person I am today. He built my character and encouraged me.

“I thank the Almighty God for helping me achieve this great award because without Him I would not be standing here in the Fiji Police Force.

“My father advised me to live a life of standards and discipline and wherever I go should keep up the reputation and do everything right.”

Meanwhile, his father and namesake said: “This is a career opportunity that he should explore. Joining the Fiji Police Force and looking into the future to achieve greater goals in life is important.

“We set a goal, set a career and he is looking forward to dedicate and serve the people of Fiji.

“All I advised him was to serve God with all his heart.”
