Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) chief-of-staff Colonel Ratu Jone Kalouniwai described the late Staff Sergeant Ratu Ponipate Qoro as a hard worker.

Staff Sergeant Qoro was with the RFMF Engineers. He died after a head-on collision in Nasinu, opposite the Fiji National University Nasinu Campus earlier this month.

“He died on the spot,” Colonel Kalouniwai said.

The RFMF he said, had lost a loyal and a dedicated worker. RFMF Engineers operations officer Major Sanaila Vatukalulu said Staff Sergeant Qoro had just returned from the Golan Heights and was still on leave.

According to a Police report a vehicle heading towards Suva and driven by a 37-year-old man who was alleged to have fallen asleep veered onto the opposite lane and hit the vehicle driven by the 54-year-old.

Major Vatukalulu said Staff Sergeant Qoro was faithful and hardworking.

“We will miss him dearly,” he said.

The funeral he said was at Veiseisei, Vuda on Thursday last week and the Commander Rear Admiral Viliame and senior officers were there at the last farewell.

Staff Sergeant Qoro was a member of the All Nations Christian Fellowship (ANCF).

ANCF Superintendent General Epeli Ratabacaca said he was a dedicated soldier who had paved the way to success by showing exemplary leadership for many church members.
