Mulomulo Boxing Club of Nadi hosted their inaugural awards night on Thursday.

The awards were presented to professional boxers and officials who made a mark during the year.

The Golden Boy award went to Siliveni Nawai dubbed the ‘Hands of Stone’ for being unbeaten this year. He has an unbeaten record of 10 fights since making his debut in 2011.

Top Show Award was given to Abhay Chand, 38 of Draiba, Navosa who fought 39 times, won 20, lost 15, drew 4 since making his debut in 2000.

Rugged award

The Rugged Award was given to Ronald Naidu, number one contender in the welterweight division.

A hard hitter, he has fought 10 times, won 5, lost 2 and drew 3. The Most Valuable Player Award went to Shamal Ram Anuj. The ‘baby’ of the club remains undefeated after five fights. He is following the footsteps of his grandfather Ram Anuj, a former bantamweight champion of Fiji in the 1970s.

Club founder Chanchal Kumar Babba said boxers deserved to be recognised.

“The club was established in 2010 which consisted of 15 amateur boxers and competed in the Fiji Games and won five gold medals,” he said.

“In 2017 all our boxers through hard work were undefeated except for Naidu. Recently the club took five boxers to Labasa and four won by knockouts while one won on points.

The club has also produced boxers like Sailasa Moko, Viliame Taganikoro the late Joy Ali, Jonny Singh and Junior Farzan Ali.

Club patron Tarun Patel thanked their major sponsor Mana Flyer Cruises (Fiji) managing director Rakesh Krishna for supporting them throughout.

“Also to the boxers and their families need to be applauded,” Patel added.
