A total of 1829 traffic offence were booked on Fiji roads in a span of six days last week.

A total of 5303 vehicles were stopped of which 1829 were booked for an array of offences. Of this, 43 were booked under the drink driving offence.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho says this was too high for a country like Fiji.

“I am again cautioning the public to take heed of the warnings that are being given out about driving responsibly on Fiji roads. This number of offences is high and we are urging all road users to exercise precaution.”

Being the holiday season, Brigadier-General Qiliho said there would be a lot of movement on the roads and he asked drivers to think of their families and other road users.

“This is the holidays. Everyone will be looking to travel with families and friends and the Police will be out in numbers to see that road rules are observed,” he said.
