Deepsha Lal scored a total of 385 marks in the Year 12 examinations and topped Penang Sangam High School in Rakiraki.

Deepsha scored 91 in English, 99 both in Maths and Accounting, 96 in Economics and 95 in Computer Studies.

She said that during Cyclone Winston, their family home in Waimari, Ra was destroyed and her parents encouraged her to work hard.

“I saw my parents work hard during those difficult times and providing food and all necessities to us. I then realised that I needed to work hard in school and play my part as my parents were playing their part of being good parents,” Deepsha said.

“I am happy with my marks and I plan to do Form 7 (Year 13) next year and further my career in the accounting field.

“This year was challenging. I had a lot of competition in school and balancing my responsibility of being a deputy head girl with studies was difficult.

“I used to study late at night to keep up to date with studies.”

She thanked her subject teachers and school principal and management for their continued support.

She also thanked her hardworking parents for their continuous support.
