Family Visits Husband’s Village For First Time After 27 Years of Marriage

‘This would also be a traditional visit for the family as we would be taking our children’
Alena Jitoko has an exciting Christmas ahead.
Today, she expects to touch the shores of her husband’s village in Matuku, Lau, for the first time after 27 years of marriage.
Yesterday, we caught up with the Lakeba, Lau, woman who was with her children and grandchildren at Port Mua-i-Walu. With them loads of items and luggage were packed and ready for the trip of their lifetime.
She and her husband are taking their children and grandchildren to Levukaidaku, Matuku, for the first time too.
“After 27 years of marriage we will be visiting his village and this would also be a traditional visit for the family as we would be taking our children for the first time,” the 48-year-old said.
“Our children and grandchildren for the first time will meet the extended family.”
The mother of three said in the past years they always spent Christmas in Nadi because of their work in the tourism industry.
But this year, they decided to give themselves a much-deserved break and change of scenery.
“This is also a good time for us to go and visit our family in the village and my children’s grandparent’s graveyard.”
Ms Jitoko said a reception awaits them.
“We are the only visitors who will be visiting the village and spend Christmas with them and they are all waiting for our arrival.”
She looks forward to doing exciting chores like baking and decorating for ‘the most wonderful time of the year’.
