Fiji Table Tennis Association president Anthony Ho has raised his concerns on the decreased number of athletes for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

“There have been a restricted number of athletes which we are hoping to increase,” Ho said.

‘We’ve been allocated only two spots for men and two for women.”

He said they would be asking Team Fiji if they could have the numbers increased, so that both men and women’s teams could have three players each.

“It takes three people to make-up a team, so we’re going to talk to Team Fiji because I don’t know how these numbers were allocated to table tennis and on what basis.”

On the same note, Ho says, each team event for table tennis requires three people on each side.

When contacted Team Fiji chef de mission to the Commonwealth Games Patrick Bower said they were complying with the numbers that were given to them by those running the Games.

“The restriction is these athletes cannot go on board just because they feel they can make-up a team. We’ve got to see their credentials to ensure whether they can cope with the level of competition that is going to be held at the Commonwealth Games,” he said.
