Merry Christmas From the Fashion Council Of Fiji And the Fijian Fashion Festival

The wealth of talent in Fiji is astonishing and the Fashion Council of Fiji is making sure this talent does not go to waste.

Making Suva the global centre for Pacific fashion has always been the Council’s aim.

The Council’s goal is not far from being achieved as our country is blessed with brilliant designers and industry stakeholders.

Fashion Council of Fiji chairman Faraz Ali said in a statement: “We at the Council respect and honour the heritage of our industry, the foundation of which was laid in the 1960s by Cherie Whiteside, whose work was then carried on by Ana Sweetman and Tanya Whiteside.

“These are often the unsung heroes who took the leap before social media connected us so closely to the rest of the world.

“It is safe to say that a majority of designers today still credit Tiki Togs as their inspiration to get involved in our industry.

“What a proud history of creativity we have, and what fantastic Pacific inspiration we can draw on right here at home.

“The Council acknowledges the work of Fiji Fashion Week over the last 10 years in reinvigorating an industry and rekindling a passion in a new generation of designers. We look forward to taking this into the future with the Fijian Fashion Festival.

“We also acknowledge the good work of our most prominent fashion charity event Style Fiji, and our television competitive event Project Jejemon for contributing to the rich experience of our industry.”

The Fijian Fashion Festival committee wishes to thank all the supporters of the event who have already come alongside them to ensure that it is the strongest and most economically productive fashion event in our region.

“Our industry has never been in a better place and this is due to your hard work and commitment.

“Photographers, bloggers, stylists, fashion retailers, garment producers, make up artists, hair stylists, event managers, PR experts, visual artists, performance artists, textile designers, light and sounds technicians, and everyone else who comes together to create the ecosystem of our industry, we thank you for making this journey with us and remind you that we are your Council too, and that without you, we cannot thrive,” he added.
