Hardware Firm Pampers Elderly With Gifts

The residents of the Labasa Citizens Home were yesterday pampered with Christmas gifts from the staff of a hardware shop A. Hussain and Company Limited.
The 47 staff of the popular hardware shop in Labasa sacrificed funds that had been raised through contributions for a family picnic to purchase and meet the personal needs of the 27 residents of the home.
A.Hussain and Company Limited managing director Hazeem Hussein said the staff had paid a visit to the residents a few weeks ago and had one to one conversations to find out what they wanted for Christmas.
“Some residents thought that we would not return and deliver what we promised,” Mr Hussein said.
“However, I am very thankful to my staff for their valuable thought and contributions to bring smiles on these residents.
“Within the company we have a social club where staff and management contribute funds for various activities.
“The presentation of the gifts is very meaningful because we didn’t give them in bulk or general items.
“We provided what they were in need of.”
He said the Labasa staff initiative was their second project for the home.
“The first project was the painting of the home five years ago,” Mr Hussein said.
He said the staff and company spent more than $1200 on gifts and preparing them for the residents.
Labasa Senior Citizens Home welfare officer Neha Prasad thanked the company and their staff for taking time out from their busy schedule to sit down with the residents and handover the gifts.
