National golf champion Abid Hussain took out the Gecko Trucking/P Meghji sponsored Closing 2017 season at the Lautoka Golf Club on Saturday.

Hussain came out victorious in the playoff, edging out Nadi’s Munesh Prasad, a birdie in the 38th hole after both tied 5 under par 67.

The national rep has been in top form after returning from the Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu with two silver medals. He told SUNsports the win has added another title in his cabinet after he had earlier won the Lautoka Open.

“It’s a good feeling to also lay my hands on this event to add to all the national tournaments I had won this season,” Hussein said.

“I thank the organisers as the green is in good conditions and all golfers want to be part of this event. This is the only golf course playable in the year.”

Junior golfer Andy Low shot 63 to grab the overall nett winner prize.

In the Ladies competition Hae Seung Kim beat Ga In Ju to win the category with 76 while Ji Eun Lee took out the overall nett.

In the professional, Roneel Prakash shot 67 to take out top honours ahead of Zoheer Ahmed (70) while Amitesh Chandra (71) settled in third spot on one shot over Tomasi Tuivuna (72) to claim their shares in the $1000 prize-purse.

Club chairman of trustees Raymond Singh said, they had wanted to close the season and they had over 40 golfers taking part.

“We thank Wella Pillay and Romit Meghji for coming out of their ways to assist the sport and the club. We thank them for the support over the years especially for the development of junior golf. We’re proud of them. We have some upcoming junior golfers and some from outside Lautoka as well.”

Sponsors representative Pillay thanked the organisers and the golfers for making the event a successful one and he also assured their sponsorship for the new season.
