For Lanieta Karavaki from Qarani in Gau, giving birth to a baby boy on Christmas day was an answered prayer.

Her son, Kaiava Kunadoi was born at 10.15am and weighed 3.4 kilograms.

The mother of four who gave birth, at Tavua Hospital, said she was given a different due date, but when she went into labour on Sunday, she silently prayed that she would deliver her baby on Christmas Day.

“I prayed and I waited and when the pains got really intense on Monday, I knew my Christmas baby was coming,” she said.

Lanieta’s third child is now 10 years old and she described this fourth delivery as excruciating.

“It was like I was giving birth for the first time,”she said.

“I had sort of forgotten the pain but when it came to the time, I had to muster all my strength to make sure that my son was brought safely into this world.

“When we celebrate Christmas next year, it will be a double celebration with Kaiava’s first birthday.”
