The French ship, Ile-de-Re is moored  off Vatuwaqa, near the Fiji International Telecommunications Limited station at Rifle Range in Vatuwaqa.

The ship arrived yesterday after a five day journey from Savusavu to link up to Vatuwaqa, Suva which is in the final stage of laying the Tui Samoa cable.

The Tui Samoa cable links Samoa, Wallis and Futuna and Vanua Levu with the international Southern Cross cable at Vatuwaqa.

FINTEL Fiji chief executive officer George Samisoni said the final cable works will begin today.

Through this cable, telecommunications access will be much faster through any of our telecommunications service providers: Telecom Fiji Limited, Vodafone, INKK and Digicel.

Through this development, Mr Samisoni said, access to reliable information will be faster and easier.

The project is expected to be completed by the first quarter of next year.
