Christmas in Police station for drunk driver

A 24-year-old, who is alleged to be under the influence of alcohol while driving, had to spend his Christmas weekend at Labasa Police Station after being involved in an accident.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said on Christmas eve the suspect was heading towards Vunimoli when he allegedly drove his vehicle onto the opposite land and collided with another vehicle.
“The other driver, a 51-year-old farmer of Vunimoli, Labasa was with five passengers heading towards Labasa Hospital,” Ms Naisoro said.
“Four passengers, who received minor injuries were treated and sent home. A 24-year-old woman who is admitted at Labasa Hospital is in a stable condition.
The suspect was drunk at the time of the incident.”
Police officer assaulted
A Labasa Policeman, on his beat patrol, was assaulted by a 27-year-old farmer of Nubu Village in the province of Macuata at the weekend.
“The officer tried to stop a fight infront of Fusion Niteclub in the main street of Labasa Town,” Ms Naisoro said.
“The officer sustained injuries was treated and discharged from Labasa Hospital while the farmer is in Police custody.”
