Man on robbery charges in Suva

A 36-year-old who was charged with one count of aggravated robbery and one count of giving false information, appeared in a special court sitting on Monday.

Isikeli Sovalevu of Tailevu appeared before Magistrate Thushara Thennakoon at the Suva Magistrates Court.

On count one, it is alleged that Sovalevu, on December 22, with another robbed a 38-year-old cashier of Raiwaqa and stole one Samsung S8 mobile phone valued at $2200 and $370 cash, all totalled in value of $2570.

On count two, it is alleged that Sovalevu, gave a false name to Police of Nabua Police Station.

Magistrate Thennakoon remanded the accused in custody to appear on Friday.

Vuetibau faces assault charge

Eric Lobaki Vuetibau, 26, charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, appeared before Magistrate Thushara Thennakoon during a special court sitting at the Suva Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

It is alleged that on December 22, around 1.30am, the complainant, Tevita Vunivola, 35, along with his friend Samuela Koroi, 23, were smoking outside a nightclub in Suva when the accused approached for a cigarette.

While smoking, Vunivola claims to have felt a heavy punch land on his face and fell backward.

Magistrate Thennakoon remanded Vuetibau in custody and will appear today.

31-year-old appears in Special Court Sitting

A 31-year-old charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm appeared in a special court sitting on Monday.

The accused appeared before Magistrate Thushara Thennakoon at the Suva Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on December 21, the accused and the complainant, the accused’s wife, had an intense argument outside a nightclub in Suva whereby the accused allegedly slapped the complainant in the face several times causing her injuries.

Magistrate Thennakoon remanded the accused who will reappear today.

Neighbour charged with assault

Neighbour charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm appeared in court.

Shom Nand Sharma, 47, appeared before Magistrate Thushara Thennakoon during a special court sitting at the Suva Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

It is alleged that on December 19, Sharma slapped his neighbour’s wife twice at the back of her ear.

Magistrate Thennakoon remanded Sharma in custody and will reappear today.

Police officer faces Magistrate’s Court

A Police Officer of Nasova Police Barracks was charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Peni Betelevu Ryder, 25, appeared before Magistrate Thushara Thennakoon during a special court sitting at the Suva Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

It is alleged that Ryder, on December 23, assaulted his wife by punching her using both his fists, on her face, both sides of her ribs and her thighs.

Magistrate Thennakoon remanded Ryder in custody to appear today.

Driving under the influence of alcohol

Noa Koromaicake was charged with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Koromaicake appeared before Magistrate Thushara Thennakoon during a special court sitting at the Suva Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

He was also charged with one count of driving a motor vehicle without being the holder of a valid driving licence and contravention to the third party policy risks.

Magistrate Thennakoon remanded Koromaicake in custody to reappear today.

19-year-old on aggravated robbery, resisting arrest charge

A 19-year-old charged is with one count of aggravated robbery and one count of resisting arrest.

Taniela Turaganilewa of Lami appeared before Magistrate Thushara Thennakoon during a special court sitting at the Suva Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

On count one, it is alleged that Turaganilewa on December 21, punched the complainant, Randall James Todd, at Knolly Street, Suva, whereby Todd fell into the drain.

Turaganilewa then overpowered Todd and searched his pocket and took $700 cash along with his eye glass valued at $500.

On count two, it is alleged that Turaganilewa resisted arrest by the police and tried to push and escape but was overpowered and arrested.

Magistrate Thennakoon remanded Turaganilewa in custody to reappear today.
