A father of four, who had told his wife to change her plans of going to the West with their children, has died after a road accident early Christmas Day.

Litana Natavui had wanted to take her four children to Nadi to spend time with their grandparents, but the late Nepote Vaka had told her to cancel the trip because he wanted to spend it with them.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the deceased from Nakelo, Tailevu, was walking along the road and when he decided to cross suddenly. This was when he was allegedly hit by a vehicle.

A 41-year-old male suspect is in custody.

Ms Natavui couldn’t hold back her emotions when she recounted the last time she spoke to her husband. He had left for work on Sunday and in the afternoon received a call from him telling her he was going to drink at a friend’s house.

“He was supposed to come home after the party,” Ms Natavui said.

“I had told him yesterday (Sunday) that I wanted to go to my parents’ house in Nadi to spend Christmas, but he refused because he wanted us to stay with him at home.

“We made plans to do lovo with the family and take the children out for Christmas celebrations or picnic, but all came to an end when the Police officers called us at 3am and told us about his death.

“My children cannot believe their father is gone. They were very close to their father.”
