Nadi Magistrate Remands Three On Theft Charges

Three men on separate theft charges were remanded at the Natabua Corrections Facility by the Nadi Magistrate Court on Monday.
Krishneel Kumar, 24, appeared before Magistrate Chandani Dias during the special court sitting for two counts of aggravated burglary and theft.
The court heard on December 23 the accused entered a home in Votualevu in Nadi with intent to commit theft and at the time of the offence he was carrying a cane knife.
He allegedly stole two cell phones worth $600.
The accused told the court he would seek the services of the Legal Aid Commission.
Representing the State, prosecutor Sergeant Dinesh Chand, told the court he strongly objected to bail because the accused was from Lautoka and would likely not attend court when summoned.
Magistrate Dias asked the court that the two phones be returned to the owner.
Supermarket staff
Sevanaia Lalaqila, 28, charged with six counts of theft, appeared before Magistrate Dias.
The court heard that the accused was employed at a supermarket in Nadi where the offence was committed.
On December 6 he allegedly stole cigarettes worth $12.30, and December 11 stole a lighter worth $2.65, on December 12 and 13 he stole cigarette worth $12.30.
On December 14 he allegedly stole a bottle of London Dry Gin valued at $98.90 and five bottles of wine worth $64.75.
The accused opted for the services of Legal Aid Commission.
In objecting to bail Sergeant Dinesh said there was mistrust. He was originally from Tailevu and arrived into Nadi four months ago and he had no fixed address in Nadi.
In a separate case, Saula Qilitia, 20, appeared before Magistrate Dias with one count of theft.
The court heard that on December 23, the accused allegedly stole two bags of chicken worth $259 from the supermarket he was employed
with.
Sergeant Chand asked the court to remand the accused since he had no sure address in Nadi and he was originally from Nakorotubu in Ra.
All three accused have been remanded by Magistrate Dias until January 8 for mention at the Nadi Magistrate Court.
