Canada based Fiji-born boxing promoters have joined hand to promote the sport.

A trainer and former boxer Shameer Khan and Mohammed Hanif who are businessman based in Surrey, British Columbia have teamed up to promote with Canada Fiji Southern Boxing Promotions with promoter Simon Naushad.

“I have some big plans to bring boxers here in Fiji and also to take them abroad,”Khan said.

Khan, who is originally from Martintar, Nadi, a trainer and former boxer who flew the Fijian flag in a fight in Japan. He left Fiji 35 years ago to settle in Canada.

“Looking forward to come back and make things happen as we have very talented boxers in Fiji. I have my heart for these Fijian boxers.”

Naushad said he is happy to work hand in hand with overseas promoters to continue the legacy.

“We need people like Shameer and Mohammed who put their hands up to promote the boxers and the sport at the world stage,” he said.

Boxing Commission of Fiji chairman Bulutani Mataitawakilai said BCF is committed to those who wants to promote the sport.

He made those comments after meeting with Fijian born promoters who live in Canada in Suva last week.

“I have met them and BCF agrees after hearing them to partner with Simon Naushad,” he said.

Naushad aims to promote the Siliveni Nawai-John Chotka Jr fight at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on March 24.
