Man Who Allegedly Assaulted Police Officer Requests Bail

Mosese Gadai, who allegedly assaulted a Police officer, requested Labasa Magistrate Jeremaia Savou to release him on bail because he had spent his Christmas at the Labasa Police Station.

The farmer of Nubu Village in the province of Macuata was sorrowful and told Magistrate Savou that he sought his forgiveness.

He was charged with two counts of serious assault and one count of being drunk and disorderly.

Police Prosecutor Constable Vishal Verma objected to Gadai’s bail request and informed the court that he allegedly assaulted a Police officer who tried to stop a fight in front of Fusion Nightclub at the main street of Labasa Town last Friday night.

The officer sustained injuries.

Magistrate Savou questioned Constable Verma whether Gadai was a first offender, to which he answered yes.

Gadai, who told the court that he will seek assistance from the Legal Aid Commission, was released on bail on the sum of $200 and was told not to reoffend.

The case has been adjourned to February 2, for mention.
