Minister for Local Gov­ernment, Housing, Envi­ronment, Infrastructure and Transport, Parveen Bala handed over four new street vac­uum cleaner trucks to municipal councils in Lautoka yesterday.

The first four trucks were hand­ed over to Suva City (2) Lautoka City and Nadi Town Councils.

The introduction of the street vacuum cleaner trucks will not be limited to these councils be­cause more machines will be brought in for other councils as well.

The investment Minister Bala said is a way forward in advanc­ing our towns and cities opera­tions by having the right ma­chines.

These machines have four fea­tures.

  1. Sweeper, Vacuum dust, Spray­er and Reduce the dust.

Councils will also be able to use the trucks which has 9000 litre capacity tank to water gardens.

“The machines can attend to fire cases as well, provided we have the trained staff,” he said.

“In fact, we have redoubled our effort, to stimulate innovate ideas in our towns and cities to ensure that we maintain and en­hance the beauty of our urban environment.”
