Members of the Pygmies Youth Group walked from Lautoka to Suva and raised $6000 for the Western Disabled People Association.

Group team leader Josateki Labalaba said the youth group always conducted volunteer work for the physically challenged people, to raise funds, to help them in anything they may lack or are in need of.

There are about 50 youths in the group, who walked from Lautoka on Tuesday and reached Suva on Friday last week.

“We have one container shipment coming from New Zealand, but there are no funds for anything extra they might need like food and other rations,” Mr Labalaba said.

“Funds we collected have been deposited in the association’s account.

“The shipment coming in from New Zealand has wheelchairs and crutches and other items, but the money raised will be for food, groceries, diapers and materials members of the association need.

“Their wheelchairs are old and some association members are bedridden so our contributions will brighten their day.”

Mr Labalaba said youth groups around Fiji should help the elderly and disabled people if they come across anyone who needs their help.

“Helping people from the heart will make you feel better and if you do something for them, God will bless you as well,” he said.
