Bringing something extra joyous to the children and the vanua of Navatulevu is something that is very close to the heart of the Tui Nadi Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci.

He made this comment during the Fiji Police Force Brass Band’s short visit to Narewa Village yesterday.

“We got a call yesterday from the Police Headquarters here in the West to say that the brass band was coming down and that they wanted to visit our village,” Ratu Vuniyani said.

“For me this is something special because it is Christmas, we are looking forward to the New Year and to have them here is something extra special.”

Ratu Vuniyani said this was the second time the band had visited the village and he appreciated their going out of their way to visit communities.

“The first time they came was when the former Tui Nadi, my older brother, was still alive so to have them here again is good, the people and especially the children are able to see the brass band up close.”

As a part of its community policing programme the brass band spent two days playing in various villages, communities, orphanages and elderly care facilities.

Fiji Police Western Divisional Manager for Community Policing Superintendent of Police Petero Tuinirarama said: “Without the community there would be no Police so this is our way of thanking them for their continued support and involvement with the Fiji Police throughout the year, this is a way of giving back to the community.

“Since Christmas has just ended and the year is about to come to an end we still want to strengthen the relationship with the community and this programme has had an impact on the communities visited.”

The band is expected to return to Suva today after holding similar events in Loloma Home and Golden Age Home in Lautoka and in Natalacake Village in Ba.
