The third stage of the Nila Beach Resort in Vuda, Lautoka, is expected to be completed before the end of this year.

Nila International Limited director Mohan Chinnusamy, confirmed that the third stage of the integrated tourism development will begin this April.

The double story buildings are a total investment of about $10 million, he said.

Integrated tourism project

The project involves four stages which are worked on phase-by- phse.

The project began in 2015 on the area declared as the Tourism Zone and other resorts are located there but their concept is entirely different.

“Tourism is thriving in the country right now and so is investment.

“We came up with the concept that is ideal to Fiji,” he said.

The first and second stage has been completed which includes 12 villas on the beach side, a restaurant (all facing towards the seafront), swimming pool, public facilities, landscape and a beautiful view of the beach.

“I had acquired this land a few years ago for a resort.

“I am committed to this development and want to concentrate on the resort,” he said.

Curently, there are about 20 staff members.

They have 24 standard and luxury rooms with a swimming pool and restaurants that serve foods ranging from Indian, Chinese, Fijian to Western foods.

The company plans to employ more than 100 staff after all the rooms have been completed.

“There are a lot of weddings and functions happening on the beach side especially since the sunset and sunrise is very beautiful,” he said.

Funding and future plans

Funding will be sourced from the Bank of Baroda, he said.

Mr Chinnusamy had also partnered with his Fijian born wife on this project.

Their concept is to have about 60 over-the-water villas, which will be part of stage 4.

This will be unique for Vuda.

“I don’t think there will be any competition based on the quality.

“Our style is different and so far I have not seen any competition.

“It is a good initiative for all Vuda properties to come together and form an association and talk with government,” he said.

He said the formation of an association is to be the voice of all properties based in Vuda.

Tourism Expo

The 2018 Fijian Tourism Expo (FTE) will take place from 10th – 12th of April at Denarau Events Centre.

Nila Beach Resort made their debut at the 2017 Tourism Expo which was held at the same venue.

Mr Chinnuisamy said, “Tourism Expo has helped us a lot.

“We had a lot of queries after that expo.

“We met a lot of agents and they visited our resorts.

“We plan to be a part of the expo in April 2018,” he said.

About the investor

Mr Chinnusamy was born in Chennai, Madras, in India but migrated to Australia in 1998 to open a business in Sydney.

Their company specialises in manufacturing and marketing of white goods such as electric appliances and washing machines.

The company opened the Nila boutique shop in MHCC Suva and another shop in Main Street Nadi but these had now closed.

The focus is on Nila Beach.
