Member of Parliament and businessman, Balmindra Singh

Member of Parliament and businessman, Balmindra Singh, 46, appeared at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.

He is charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

On December 17, 2017, the accused allegedly assaulted a 29-year-old bus driver at a nightclub in Suva, occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police prosecutor Corporal Luke Qerawaqa served Singh with full phase disclosures and told the court that the state had no objections to Singh being granted bail.

Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage granted him bail and ordered him to provide one surety who would be bonded for $1000.

The court heard that Singh and the complainant did not have a domestic relationship, and that Singh lived in Tailevu.

The case has been adjourned to March 8, for Singh’s plea to be heard.

He was represented by Suva lawyer, Andrew Liverpool.
