The Suva Retailers Association has given an advisory for parents to organise their Back To School shopping because of the current traffic congestion and road works.

“We suggest that the consumers make a budget for their ‘Back to School’ items and shop around for the best deals,” said Suva Retailers Association president Vinay Kumar.

“We also recommend that consumers plan their trips to Suva town due to the traffic congestion and current road works.”

There are two weekends left before school starts on January 15, and this gives the parents sufficient time for shopping for their children’s Back To School shopping.

“The prices of exercise books are regulated by Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), and stationery prices are competitive,” Mr Kumar said.

Mr Kumar said the uniforms and shoes were imported and some were manufactured locally which made prices competitive.

The ‘back to school’ retailers are already advertising for the school items on all media from the newspapers to social media.

Mr Kumar said consumers could make informed purchase decisions by checking the advertising.

He said the Suva Central Business District (CBD) retailers selling the school items would be open for longer hours on Saturdays and shopping complexes in the greater Suva area will service shoppers on Sundays. SRA wishes all the students a successful 2018 school year.
