Former Vodafone Fijian Under-20 and Suva football captain Jale Dreloa is in the Labasa squad to face favourites Lautoka in today’s first clash of the Pillay’s Garment Champions versus Champion series.

Dreloa led the Fijian U20 side to the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand in 2015.

He’s expected to strengthen the Labasa defence from the centreback position where he is expected to form a formidable defensive line with Thomas Steiner.

Labasa Football Association secretary Varun Anand told SUNsports yesterday that they’re confident of a good outing in the CvC opener.

“We’re very serious about this match and all preparations have been done,” Anand said.

The Babasiga Lions are ready to do their home fans proud when they run into Subrail Park at 1pm.

“The players had their last training under the guidance of former Labasa coach Bal Sanju Reddy who has stepped forward to assist us and we’re grateful for that.”

“The weather is looking very favourable and hence, we urge all our fans to come out in numbers and support their team.”

The Northerners face an uphill battle to contain Lautoka’s attacking force led by Christopher Wasasala, Samuela Drudru, stylish midfielder Zibraaz Sahib, Dave Radrigai, Siotama Kubu and Kolinio Sivoki.

The hosts are strengthened by the presence of veteran players like Taniela Waqa, goalkeeper Akuila Mateisuva, Pita Bolaitoga and Anare Apenisa.

“The players have shown commitment and some have sacrificed their festive season to prepare for the CvC. We’re not underestimating Lautoka knowing that they have prepared well also,” Anand added.

BOLAITOGA RETURNS

Stylish midfielder Pita Bolaitoga today makes a return to top level football.

Anand said it’s an honour for them to welcome Bolaitoga back to competitive football.

“Pita had taken a break and he took-up coaching,” Anand said.

“At one stage he was helping coach Labasa and now he has put on his boots for the game tomorrow.”

Bolaitoga played for Labasa and represented Fiji to the 2007 Pacific Games and the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in South Africa.  In the Oceania region, he also represented Hekari FC of Papua New Guinea in the Oceania Football Confederation’s Champions League.
