The Northern Division outbreak response team is working promptly to address the typhoid cases in the northern division.

There were seven confirmed cases in the village of Natua (Wailevu District) in Savusavu as of last week and all cases are being attended to promptly.

In regards to Natua Village typhoid cases the Subdivisional Outbreak Response Team (SORT) are carrying out their intervention.

These include:

Case investigation

Outreach Awareness programmes on preventative measures for Communicable Diseases, hand hygiene and sanitation

A mass vaccination of the Natua villagers and close contacts

Contact tracing of the linked individuals to identify source/links between the cases.

Identification of the suspected/probable cases as per case definition to provide prompt treatment to avoid any complications

A team was mobilised and on standby in the Natua Village to monitor the case last week because of the mass gathering (wedding and funeral).

Likewise for the Naiqaqi Village there were four cases of typhoid recorded in September and these were attended to by the SORT response by active case finding, case follow up, health education awareness, spraying activities, and immunisation.

The Ministry continues to closely monitor the typhoid cases and is committed on providing the necessary treatment and support required.
