Squash Fiji conducted final trials to select their representatives for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

It started last Thursday and ended on Saturday.

In Thursday’s matches saw Justin Ho and Romit Meghji justify their positions as Fiji’s No.1 and 2 players respectively.

Ho beat Andre Roxburgh and Tony Sigabalavu in straight sets. He continued his fine form last Friday by beating Sailesh Pala and David Young also in straight sets. Meghji also won in straight sets against Sigabalavu, Young, Daniel Fong and Roxburgh.

“While the top two positions are expected to be filled by these two, there is strong competition for the remaining positions between the other squad members Stephen Henry, Sailesh Pala, Daniel Fong and David Young,” national team manager Dinesh Narayan.

Alison Yee continued her dominance in the ladies division by easily winning her matches against sisters Samantafa Fa and Robyn Samisoni. The upset of the day was created by Samantafa when she won a hard fought 5 setter 3-2 against the heavily favoured Makita Tusega.

“We will select a six-member squad for training and squash will send four players to the Commonwealth Games,” Narayan said.

Results: Justin bt Andre 3-0, Romit bt Tony 3-0, Sailesh bt Daniel 3-1, David Y bt Stephen H 3-2, Alison bt Samantafa 3-0, Makita bt Robyn 3-1, Justin bt Tony  3-0, Sailesh bt Andre 3-0, Romit bt David 3-0, Daniel bt Stephen 3-2..
