The InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa has stepped forward to enhance the health and friendliness of Sanasana Village in Natadola, Nadroga.

The renowned five-star resort financed the cost of the ablution block in the chiefly bure at a cost of $26, 000.

“This was through our relationship and what we get around. The InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) team does a lot of community projects,” said the resort’s area general manager Andrew Davidson during the official opening last Friday.

The chiefly bure will accommodate the government, church and resort delegates who visit the village and now it is complete with toilets and shower facility.

“The chiefly bure of Sanasana Village did not have an ablution facility ever since it was built so when a function or dignitary visited the village for any kind of formal event it took our attention when a situation arose of the guest wanting to use a bathroom,” he said.

“It is now more comfortable and more dignified at the end of the day.”

The village has 95 households with close to 400 people and more than 200 are children.

Village headman Lasarusa Doro said, on behalf of the villagers of Sanasana they are truly grateful to the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa for its prompt boost for 2018.

“This is to foster our relationship once again as something did happen and made our bond turn cold, but we are now working in hand in hand.

“The resort has given its assurance to look after us well, and more projects will take shape this year,” he said.

Mr Davidson and his IHG team also visited a village elder whose home was destroyed in a fire. The resort donated building materials as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

The IHG team also awarded monetary prizes to the three Sanasana Village section leaders for the ‘Most Clean Village Section’ competition. Five skip bins were handed over to Sanasana Village and placed along the famous Natadola beach.

This is to create awareness that all rubbish must be placed into these bins and not into the sea.
